Just have to say again how awesome the community is in Mount Victoria.

Today we were pretty disappointed with a whole lot of cleaning up and trench digging to do after the deluge that happened here overnight.

We were supposed to hit the road to Tasmania when two things happened…. the deluge and flooding of a reno we have only just completed and a reminder, that financially, we aren’t quite there and able to have this trip to Tassie.

I must say I was devastated, horrified, embarrassed and so darn tired.

I usually just get on with things – onwards and upwards is my mantra and I reminded myself to move forward.

So… after screaming at each other and being so angry and disappointed, we started digging.

And good things happened. Cakes came to us so it was time to stop (more than once), make coffee, a chat with friends and have a laugh. A bottle of wine (and a borrowed shovel) was on the road leaning against my car after school drop-off. Many, many offers of help and support came our way from the variety of friends we have all over the Blue Mountains and further afield. Then we were hand delivered many hot tasty pies and sausage rolls (the gourmet kind!) from Piccolo Deli here in Mount Vic at the end of the day. I couldn’t even think about what to do for dinner with no food in the house as we were meant to be on the road so they really did come at a perfect time.

You know what?

The Blue Mountains is a pretty good spot to have a holiday and a break. We might just do some bushwalking and check out some of the best bits of the mountains. Perhaps we need to be tourists ourselves here and remember why we chose to move here.

So, in a classic case of remembering to stop and smell the roses, get over the bad and get on with what’s good, I must say Day 1 of my holiday has been pretty darn enjoyable.

Thank you friends. Thank you gorgeous Mount Victoria. x

P.S. it really is the best kept secret – don’t tell anyone!
