So May 24th 2014 was my last blog post over on blogspot but I can see more and more that people are still blogging and I think it’s time to go back to it.

This weekend I’ve been working on a lovely doggy portrait that will be heading to Seaforth, NSW this week.

This portrait is in acrylics on a lovely heavy linen paper. I started by doing a rough draft from photos sent to me of Wiley (Jack Russell) and Eddie (West Highland Terrier), getting them set up nicely within the A3 frame.

I was nervous at first doing a fluffy white dog but started to dabble in pale colours as fur which was quite a lot of fun. I do like to throw in daubs of colour here and there to my dog greeting cards so became a little bolder after a couple of hours working on the portrait.

The dogs took shape quickly – as well as a life of their own. I love to see the sparkle come out in their little doggy eyes.

The blue background is for my client, well, the painting is for her son and he loves blue. I love the intensity of this colour.

I’ve finished up layering the dogs and even adding some lovely teal green to Eddie’s white coat. I’m also into polkadots and thought they’d be cute to add. If my client isn’t keen on them I can drop them back with some more blue background.
