Description
It’s always a thrill to travel west along the Great Western Highway as you climb up and up and up. Each village has something totally unique about it and a pleasure to spend time in. This design features black cockatoos flying above the Blue Mountains.
The trail of the highway sits on top of one of the mountain ranges as an artistic interpretation of the elevations as you move up. At One Tree Hill, not far from Mount Piddington in Mt Victoria stands a sign announcing that One Tree Hill is the ‘highest point in the city of the Blue Mountains’.
The elevations were supplied to me from Blue Mountains City Council and are mapped via each railway station – which is not always the highest point in each village!
Since the bushfires hit us here in Mount Victoria in late 2019, I have been developing map tea towels for different regions to reinvigorate tourism. Then Coronavirus hit and we were busy shooing the tourists away. It’s all a little frustrating but it’s inspired me to create maps for different much-loved regions to celebrate our home towns, remember places we cherish and remind ourselves how beautiful Australia truly is.
