The Last Resort describes the progress one women's refuge made towards that goal. It tells the hidden side of family life: of physical and psychological brutality, of anxiety, poverty, loneliness. That there is laughter and friendship in the story as well as fear and anger is a tribute to the collective effort of residents and workers to create a haven and to provide new hope.
