Handmade hearts

Made with love using recycled, upcycled and found finds.

Why I make hearts.

2026 hit with a bang.

It started with an amazing trip to Japan then went a little askew... Marriage over and then 2 sets of stitches in my head when I fell backwards gardening outside. What else could go wrong? Well, the Victoria Pass (historic convict causeway weaving down to Hartley) was discovered with a 4.8m fracture. This meant the Great Western Highway where my shop resides was suddenly dead quiet.

My anxiety felt out of control and so I stitched. I started making a handmade heart cushion for my bed using all the beautiful fabrics, trims and vintage cotton lace I've collected.

Then I made another and another....

Slow stitching is my meditation. Each stitch weaves as I breathe, calming my anxiety. Thoughts don't dart so quickly as I concentrate on the heart I am creating.

I gather vintage linens soiled from daily life, trimming the best to stitch. Each of these has a story, carefully stitched by a woman with her own dreams and anxieties. I embroider words and add beads from a broken earring. The hearts are backed with warm retro blankets. The filling is often recycled from cushions.

You can follow my stitching on Youtube (it's a bit haphazard but fun).

'My 'Be Free' heart cushion arrived yesterday and I am astounded at the little details I can now see in real life. Photos really do not do justice to the amount of love put into these cushions! The little sparkly bits, the extra embroidery, the strategic stitches and the blanket stitching all around. I love the tiny bits of fabric hearts and flowers, as well as the Suffolk puffs. I think "Ponce" will be in high demand, too!' - Sharon
