Why kids books?

You've seen the t shirts and tea towels. But now I want to show what I can do with books...

I've procrastinated on creating kids books for a couple of years now. I start creating then stop as I get caught up in the manic world of my small business.

This is such a personal journey but I am excited to be writing and illustrating kids books in 2025. Each week I am setting aside time to create more and more.

May 2025: I am working on my second book. Still in development stage but I'm very excited about it.

In high school, I stopped going to a lot of classes except my favourites - Art and English. I was drawing posters for bands in Sydney and working out how I could do this sort of stuff all the time. I probably wasn't going to see it through to Year 12. I wanted to do illustration or animation but my high school art teacher, Mrs Pritchard pushed me towards applying to get into graphic design (late 1980s). I sat a few tests for the course, lots of hand-rendering, and I got in!

That set me up for a great career in graphic design working across Australia from Sydney to Darwin, Alice Springs to Brisbane. Eventually I wanted to work for myself so Mount Vic and Me was born in 2013. It's been a fun design journey so far... I can't wait to see what happens next with kids books.

  • I've always drawn

    I have always loved to draw. I have scrapbooks of my illustrations (collected by my Aunty) since I was around 2-3 years old. I have so many ideas I want to share with the world.

  • Pictures with punch...

    As well as writing stories of course. I've always enjoyed doing both. Creating small visual details in my illustrations is something I always do, layering up my designs with texture and colour, making each page fun to explore.

  • A graphic designer by trade

    I've worked all over Australia as a graphid designer and illustrator. So getting books print-ready comes automatically to me. My vast experience in the paper and print industry over the last 30+ years means I can lay out books ready for print easily.
