Born in Armidale in 1915, iinto a prominent pastoral family, Judith Wright has never lost her love or respect for the land and those who inhabit it. A committed environmentalist, in the 1960s she helpt to save the Great Barrier Reef from destruction by mining, and has since been influential in the continuing fight to preserve Australia’s rainforest and coastal areas. Recognising the prior claims of Aboriginal people on the alnd, Judith Wright has also been a passionate activist for Aboriginal rights.
