Established in 2013, Mount Vic and Me® is the brainchild of local designer Kara Cooper who resides in the historic village of Mount Victoria high up in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, Australia.

The quirky, unique range of tea towels, socks, greeting cards, mugs, cushions, wallpaper and fabrics are created in a fabulous 100 year old cafe on the highway in Mt Vic. The studio shop is a mash of colour, textures, retro fun and nostalgia.

The bold printed art tea towels, greeting cards and cushions have the tick of approval by the Australian Made campaign. It’s a delight to see people laugh at the Aussie Political tea towels and you can also find Kara’s range of Australiana designs across upholstered retro chairs, cushions and linens.

Mount Vic and Me moved into the current premises of the old Mountain Top Cafe in mid-2019 after being housed right next door sharing a tiny shop space next door. Taking that initial plunge on the small shop was terrifying, but by around three months into the space, it was clear that it wasn’t big enough!

A ‘working studio’…

With Kara designing the range, hand-packaging the products, distributing across Australia and internationally, keeps us pretty busy and a good work/life balance is important. That’s why the studio is not always open to the public. It’s a good chance to get out and get inspired, a bushwalk, hang out with the kids, weeding the veggie patch and tending to the chooks.

Check the homepage of this site and social media for pop-up open days.

Kara Cooper

Creator of Mount Vic and Me

Kara completed her Graphic Design education in the early 90’s (pre-computers!) and has worked across Australia for design agencies in Sydney, Darwin, Alice Springs and Brisbane. Kara still works with graphic design, web and illustration clients so if you have a project in mind, please contact the studio.

Kara’s love of vintage textiles started at a young age as her mother ran a 2nd hand clothing business. 1950’s frocks, hat boxes and hawaiian shirts still inspire her design work today. Kara worked as a teenager for Sheridan store, David Jones where she discovered the fabulous joy of 1980’s-1990’s bed linen (lots of ruffles back then and big bold prints!).

The beauty of the Blue Mountains has always inspired Kara as a child with so many happy memories. She and her husband and kids moved to the quaint village of Mount Victoria in 2012 after living in the Mountains for many years. The old caravan sits out the front waiting for the next adventure while her pug and rescue cattle dog wait ready for the next walk.

Kym Wilkinson
Orders and studio shop open days

When you come to Mount Vic and Me, you are likely to meet Kym. Kym has become an integral part of the studio where she looks after the packing of orders, chatting to customers, stock control and general tidying up when it gets out of control (which is mostly all the time). She also organises cake and coffee (or wine) when we need a breather!

When the studio is open, you’ll usually find Kym is the first to open the doors in her retro dresses and a fun brooch on. (Kara is trying to convince her to start an insta profile featuring her fun jewellery and dresses!).

Brett Williams

Web development

Brett is the one working on the back end stuff on Mount Vic and Me’s website. He loves solving all things technical, maintaining the site when things go pear-shaped and keeping on top of it all. Updates, themes, better ways of working and searching for plug-ins to make life easier! Originally neighbours in Mt Vic, Brett and Kara have been working alongside on design and web projects for external clients for many years.

Brett’s other life includes his love of guitars, family time and playing gigs across Australia with his band, The Choirboys.
